DUKE
HEITGER, Jazz Trumpet
|
|
Born in Toledo, trumpeter Duke
Heitger moved to New Orleans in 1991 to join Jacques Gauthe’s
Creole Rice Jazz Band. Since that
time, he has become one of the most sought after players on the international scene, performing
and recording around the world with a diverse roster of musicians. |
|
Duke has toured the United States and
Europe extensively as a bandleader and guest soloist, and in Israel as a
member of the Statesmen of Jazz. He has also made his mark on popular music,
earning a platinum record for his work on the Squirrel
Nut Zippers’ million seller “Hot”. He has made a number of
guest appearances on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” with Butch
Thompson, and has been featured on broadcasts by the Jim Cullum Jazz Band live from the
Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas. On November
14-15-16 (2014), Duke will host the Second Annual
Steamboat
Stomp 3-Day
Jazz Festival in New Orleans. Classic jazz bands, guest stars, a second
line parade, and a gospel jazz brunch will all be featured. “What better location [can there be for a
classic jazz festival] than one of the last authentic steamboats still
operating in the United States?” he asks.
The Steamboat
Natchez will serve as the anchor for the festival. Various
packages are offered, and a limited number of tickets are still
available. Contact Duke at: 419 464-1630 or dukeheit@bellsouth.net
for additional festival details. This weekend, Duke will perform with the
Yerba Buena Stompers,
and also lead the GRUGELFEST All-Star Band for
the V.I.P. Patron Breakfast. For more information, check out
