The Easy Street Jazz Band has been delivering hot jazz to the Ann Arbor area for over 40 years.  Paul Klinger, who lives (literally) on Easy Street says, “We don’t know exactly the particular day the band was formed. I’m sure there was a first gig, but nobody remembers it.”  In the 1970s they could be heard at Bimbo’s in Ann Arbor, later at the Bird of Paradise and Firefly Jazz Clubs.  They currently play on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 8:30 PM at the Zal Gaz Grotto.

The Easy Street players specialize in the music of Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, James P. Johnson, and the less familiar works of many other musicians and  composers.  For more information about the Easy Street Jazz Band, contact Paul Klinger at pklinger@umich.edu or 734 649-1009.
